Overview

What You’ll See & Do

You’ll begin with approximately 30 minutes alongside your guides to get suited up and participate in a comprehensive safety orientation. During this briefing, you’ll review essential boating guidelines and learn how to confidently operate your own vessel. All necessary equipment is provided, including waterproof outerwear, rubber boots, and a personal flotation device. Once instructions are complete, you’ll set off from the dock conveniently located beside your cruise ship. As you cruise past your floating home, get ready for an exciting start to your adventure.

The next couple of hours will be spent exploring the scenic waterways aboard your Zodiac. With guidance from your experienced tour leader, you’ll navigate the calm, sheltered stretches of the Tongass Narrows, passing secluded islands and picturesque coastlines. Routes are thoughtfully selected based on weather conditions and wildlife activity for the day. Keep your eyes open for humpback whales, orcas, harbor seals, and majestic bald eagles soaring overhead — and be sure to keep your camera within reach to capture the unforgettable surroundings.

Throughout the journey, you’ll pause at notable landmarks while your guide shares fascinating insights into the area’s culture, traditions, native wildlife, and the legacy of the former Ketchikan Pulp Mill. You’ll also view Totem Bight State Historical Park from the water, where intricately carved totem poles line the shoreline in honor of Tlingit and Haida artistic heritage. Questions are always welcome, making this an interactive and engaging experience.

To conclude your excursion, you’ll return to the marina for the final 15 minutes, where a warm drink and light refreshment will be waiting to help you relax and unwind before heading back to your cruise ship.
